Materials Visualization Competition Showcases Penn State's Materials Research

About two weeks ago I saw an announcement for the Materials Visualization Competition (MVC10) put on by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Materials Research Institute at Penn State. MVC10 is a scientific visual and artistic competition started to highlight the quality of research in materials at Penn State. See the entire gallery.
The blending of art and science helps to attract attention to the beauty of science and gives a visual anchor to complicated topics such as "Parylene coated MEMS based piezoelectric ultrasound transducer array for high resolution imaging.", which is the description behind the colorful image featured on this post.
We contacted organizer Mike Fleck, a got his permission to reproduce the gallery of last years winners here on Labgrab.com See the 2009 Winners of the Materials Visualization Competition. It is our pleasure to bring exposure to this work and share the research being accomplished in materials at Penn State.
The debut of the Materials Visualization Competition was last year and over 55 images were submitted from faculty, graduate, undergraduate, and post-doc's of the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering.
