Hubble telescope to receive one final upgrade

Work has begun on what is expected to be the last upgrade to the Hubble Space Telescope, the venerable astronomical instrument responsible for countless dramatic images of stellar bodies since 1990. The scheduled repairs and improvements include replacing failed components, installing a mechanism for recovering the telescope after its work is completed, and upgrading Hubble's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 to the suped up Wide Field Camera 3 version. This latest model of the instrument is expected to enhance Hubble's sensitivity and resolution to unprecedented levels, as well as add the ability to record across multiple wavelengths of light simultaneously. Work on the upgrade is expected to continue for several years.
